Excellent salary and benefits.
Location: UK, Birmingham (Hybrid).
New Leaf Search is partnering with an established UK Asset Finance group in its search for a Credit Underwriter.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced underwriter to join a busy central credit function, assessing Asset Finance proposals across a varied portfolio of hard and soft assets together with unsecured lending.
You will use financial accounts, credit searches, business information and commercial judgement to assess risk and make well-reasoned underwriting decisions, while working closely with sales and support teams to ensure appropriate and commercially balanced outcomes.
Key Accountabilities
• Deliver risk-based assessments of incoming Asset Finance proposals.
• Make underwriting decisions using credit searches, financial accounts, cash flow analysis and relevant business information.
• Assess large volumes of customer and business information to determine appropriate levels of credit risk.
• Clearly justify underwriting decisions and provide constructive feedback to sales and support teams.
• Assist with the preparation and presentation of credit papers for senior approval.
• Support new initiatives, pilot schemes and improvements to underwriting processes.
• Participate in the testing and implementation of new systems and procedures.
• Review completed transactions through post-payout auditing and recommend improvements where appropriate.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain an efficient underwriting workflow.
Person Specification
• Previous underwriting experience within Financial Services, preferably Asset Finance and Leasing.
• Existing underwriting mandate and confidence making sound credit decisions.
• Strong understanding of Asset Finance and the differing risk characteristics of hard and soft assets.
• Ability to analyse financial statements, profit and loss accounts, balance sheets and debt servicing capability.
• Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Good commercial judgement and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly organised with the ability to manage changing workloads and priorities.
• Comfortable using Excel, Word, CRM and other credit-related systems.
We strongly favour applicants with proven, relevant experience in Financial Services, particularly in Asset Finance and Leasing. Relevant IN-COUNTRY experience is required; applications without it will not be considered.
